Finished Rob Grant's Colony today. It's really quite an entertaining read but just as you're getting into it (Around half way through), everything suddenly changes and you feel a bit disorientated... But then again that's how the character feels so it's probably a good thing. There's a really good unexpected twist and an opening for a sequel (Which I think is planned to be released in 2004). Was sad to finish the book as it's one of those you'd like to continue reading, exploring the world it's created a bit further but then I guess I'll have to wait for the follow up book for that. In the mean time it looks like the author is working on a book called "Incompetance" due for release in 2003 according to Amazon.

Next book for me to read is by Red Dwarf actor, Robert Llewellyn, it's called Brother Nature, I'll write up a mini review of my first impressions possibly tomorrow :).

It's Thursday again meaning it's job paper day. The job paper was alarmingly small this week as it only featured 300 jobs, half the usual. I guess it's due to X-mas. However, there was nothing suitable in there and jobs I've applied for have yet to get back to me... Am I that unemployable? Hopefully once I get more qualifications, preople will be after me rather than vice versa... :)

Ugh, Colony. I didn't really enjoy that book very much - But I do like the idea of them coming across Father Lewis's own colony comprised of just him and the ships prostitutes :P

The book came across to me a bit like Red Dwarf - even though the colony ship was packed with hundreds (thousands? I forget) of colonists, the most you ever come across is about 5 seperate ones, not counting the Styxes. You never even HEAR of or SEE any others, anyone outside the pilgrim parents don't get mentioned :P

I liked the "Doctors" in cryo tho ;)

Also - Seeing as I forget, and don't want to read through the book again to find out, what unexpected twist are you talking about? Eddie's "Non-permanent suspension of life", or the Ship's computer becoming one with the SR2OM ship material?

Yep, very true! I guess it's cos it's easier to develop characters when you only mention a few of them. I still enjoyed it none-the-less. Did you notice (As with Backwards), Rob uses chapters as if they are scenes from a script... guess he can't get past that habit. Hence there are like millions of chapters in the book.

Yeah but they never really mentioned them enough.

Well those are both the the twists I mention but wasn't gonna detail them incase someone else wanted to read the book and be suprised like I was! Now I guess they can't do that :P. I am mainly on about the ship being the computer and that it is wholly responsible for Eddie's situation and everything. How it wasn't just luck before...
